An independently assessed, externally credible Sustainable IT Rating from GCF — scored across GCF's six-principle Sustainable IT Framework. The SIT Rating can be used in sustainability reports, ESG investor communications, procurement submissions, and BRSR disclosures. Ratings are renewable annually.
Sustainability claims without independent verification are increasingly scrutinised by investors, procurement teams, and regulators. India's BRSR framework and ESG investor expectations are raising the bar for evidence-based disclosure — yet most IT organisations have no external validation of their sustainability performance.
GCF's SIT Rating provides exactly this: an independent, structured assessment across three dimensions — Leadership & Governance, Process & Tools, and People & Org Design — that gives stakeholders credible assurance, gives organisations a clear improvement pathway, and differentiates sustainability leaders from those making unverified claims.
The SIT Rating assesses organisations across three equally-weighted dimensions, each scored from 1 to 5. Scores are converted to a 0–100 composite rating mapped to five maturity bands.
Sustainability strategy visibility, CXO-level ownership and accountability, OKRs/KPIs linked to Sustainable IT, budget allocation, performance appraisal integration, procurement policy, and supply chain policy.
Data centre sustainability operations, software development lifecycle (SDLC) integration, circularity and CSR linkage, carbon/emission/water measurement tooling, sustainability data management, and e-waste processes.
Role-based awareness training, dedicated Sustainable IT roles at all levels, inclusivity in teams and products, stakeholder complaint/escalation mechanisms, and reporting structure from execution to CXO level.
| Score | Rating Level | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 0–25 | 🔴 Starter | No formal sustainability practices. Immediate action needed across all three dimensions. |
| 26–40 | 🟠 Aware | Awareness exists but implementation is patchy. Structured roadmap and prioritisation needed. |
| 41–60 | 🟡 Performing | Active efforts underway; good practices in some areas with gaps remaining. Prioritised improvement plan recommended. |
| 61–80 | 🟢 Enabled | Strong governance and process coverage. Sustainability is embedded in operations. Focus on measurement quality and continuous improvement. |
| 81–100 | 🌟 Continuously Improving | Best-in-class sustainable IT organisation. Sustainability is a competitive differentiator. BRSR disclosure is data-driven and independently verified. |
GCF's SIT Rating assesses organisations across three interconnected dimensions — each scored 1–5 and converted to a composite 100-point scale. No self-reporting — every score requires verifiable evidence.
Does sustainability sit at board and CXO level? Are there budgets, OKRs, procurement policies, and supply chain standards making it operational?
Are sustainability principles embedded in how IT is built, operated, and disposed of? Is carbon and water consumption visible and tracked?
Is Sustainable IT skill embedded throughout the organisation, from project teams to the board? Is there a clear reporting chain?
Organisation completes GCF's structured SIT Rating workbook — three dimensions, five maturity levels each. For each level, specific criteria must be evidenced. GCF defines exact evidence requirements at engagement start. Optional: organisation conducts a supported self-assessment workshop with GCF facilitation.
GCF assessors review submitted evidence against standardised scoring criteria across all three dimensions. Each dimension is scored 1–5 and converted to a 0–100 composite. No self-reporting accepted — every score requires verifiable documentation. AI workloads assessed using Energy Intensity Score (EIS) and kgCO₂e per inference methodology.
Scored assessment reviewed with the organisation. Opportunity to provide additional evidence or formally challenge any scoring decision. Validation call with GCF lead assessor. Final score confirmed and rationale documented for each dimension.
GCF SIT Rating Certificate issued at the appropriate band: Starter / Aware / Performing / Enabled / Continuously Improving. Digital badge for website, BRSR reports, and investor presentations. Verification link for procurement and investor use. Investor and procurement communication pack.
Specific, evidence-based recommendations to advance to the next band. Priority actions ranked by score impact and implementation effort. Suggested timeline for re-assessment. Options for GCF SIT Improvement Consulting engagement to bridge identified gaps.
